Semolina Cake | Eggless Cake | Rava Cake

Semolina is also called as Rava or Suji in Hindi. It is a type of flour made from Durum wheat and has a coarse texture. In South India Semolina is typically used to prepare Idli, Uttapam, Rava Dosa, Upma and many more dishes. Semolina can also be used in some recipes for baking such as cookies to add a crisp texture. Semolina Flour is also used to prepare pastas and breads.

Semolina Cake is a one bowl cake recipe and makes the best tea time cake. You can use any essence of choice such as orange, vanilla or pineapple and also top it with some roasted nuts or tutti frutis. I have kept this recipe for Semolina Cake very simple and easy with ingredients easily available at home.

Is Semolina Cake an Eggless Cake? Will the cake rise without eggs?

This Semolina Cake or Rava Cake is an eggless cake recipe. We have replaced eggs with curd, which is activated with leavening agents like baking powder and baking soda that rises the cake. I have used fresh curd and not sour curd.

Semolina is an excellent source of protein and fibre, has less calories and no cholesterol. It has more nutrients that all purpose flour and supports in weight loss and improves digestion. Of course, Semolina is not Gluten free since it is a wheat product and definitely not suitable for people with medical conditions or gluten sensitivity.

Pre-heat your microwave and bake on convection mode or for 40 – 45 minutes at 180 degree.

All ovens and microwaves are different, hence it is important to check the cake after 35 minutes.

As for the cooking time, the recipe suggests baking the cake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 40 – 45 minutes. However, please note that the actual cooking time may vary depending on your oven and the size and shape of your baking tin. It’s always a good idea to start checking the cake a few minutes before the suggested cooking time to avoid over-baking it.
